Call For Papers – Sirca Young Researcher Workshop
Sirca’s Chief Research Officer, Terry Walter, invites young researchers on behalf of the Membership and Research Committee (MRC) to submit a current research paper for possible inclusion in the 2nd Sirca Young Researcher Workshop. Submitted papers should be sufficiently advanced to benefit from feedback and suggestions from a seminar presentation. Please send all papers to callforpapers@sirca.org.au. The deadline for submissions is 12 May 2013.
Notification of the five papers to be included will be made by 15 June 2013, at which time we will also advise the nominated MRC referee who will discuss the individual papers at the workshop. Sirca will also invite a further group of young researchers to the workshop as attendees and to participate in research presentations in the afternoon of 25 July 2013. Sirca will meet all reasonable travel and accommodation costs for the presenters and the invited attendees.
To qualify for inclusion at least one of the authors of the submitted paper must be a young researcher. We define a young researcher to be a person currently engaged in PhD research or one whose PhD thesis was completed within the last five years. It is not a requirement for submitted papers to be using Sirca data however the researcher must be from a Sirca Member university. Sirca would also like to track the progress of papers submitted at this workshop and be kept informed of any publication outcomes.

PhD Scholarship Opportunity
Sirca is working to deploy cutting edge data analysis tools to complement our data sources as part of our ongoing strategy aimed at improving research outcomes.
One initiative we have underway is working with Macquarie University, a Sirca Member, in exploring issues in Laser Physics; one strand of this research involves the development and application of methods to find non-linear and chaotic structure in streaming data. These methods will be directly applicable to the analysis of streams of financial market data.
The project has a PhD scholarship available for a suitable candidate, details of the opportunity can be found at:
http://hdr.mq.edu.au/information_about/scholarships/hdr_scholarships_domestic_and_international
in the Business and Economics section.
Applications close March 14th, 2013.
